Established in 1976, the Chaleur Firefighters Association was spearheaded by Fire Chief Evode Cormier of Petit-Rocher, NB. The Chaleur Firefighters Association encompassed fire departments from within the Chaleur region which extended from Allardville, NB in the south of the association as far as Robinsonville / Upsalquitch in the north. The first official meeting was held on November 28, 1976 @ 19:30 hours in the Dalhousie Fire Department with 8 fire departments represented (Dalhousie, NBIP Co., Charlo, Eel River Crossing, Balmoral, Pointe-Verte, Beresford & Petit-Rocher). At this meeting, the first official executive was elected for a 1-year term which commenced on January 1, 1977.

In the early years of the Association, the membership worked hard at promoting Fire Prevention and during Fire Prevention Week in the month of October each year they organized dances, parades, inspections, and training seminars. Also, during Fire Prevention Week, they organized annual parades which started in Charlo, NB traveling north and ending in Atholville, NB and starting in Jacquet River, NB going south and ending in Bathurst, NB.

The Association also raised funds by hosting various activities such as a Smelt Fry, suppers, dances, and ticket raffles.

Every year there was also Firefighter Fun Games Tournaments which circulated throughout the Association each year which included events such as a ladder race, hose coupling, hose replacement, duty race, ABC race, and bucket brigades.
